Pay per click advertising is one of the fastest ways there is to generate traffic. It can also be a quick way to lose an arm and a leg if you are not careful.
Improve Your Online Business With Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
So you?ve got that wonderful work-at-home online business up and running. You?ve got a dynamite website with easy to use navigation, a slew of well written, entertaining and pertinent articles, and more revenue-generating links than you can handle. But for some reason, the hits just aren?t coming and your business isn?t making as much money as you deserve. How do you turn a struggling online business into a profitable online business?
The first thing you have to ask yourself is, ?How are people hearing about my site?? In an Internet dominated by search engines like Google and Yahoo, high search engine ranking is a must. Why? Most search engines show ten results per page, ranked in order, and most users never make it past the first page. That means that if your website is going to be found, it needs to be top 10. But how? How!? Take a look at the title of this article. That?s right. Through search engine optimization. SEO is a simple concept. Use the words that people will probably enter into search engines strategically in the content of your website. This article is using a couple of SEO keywords, like Online Business or Search Engine Optimization, the very subjects people might search for if looking for an article like this. See how easy it is? Two more keywords without interrupting the flow of the article!
Using search engine optimization effectively may mean redesigning most of the content on your website. When you?re doing that try to keep in mind these Six Commandments of SEO.
THOU SHALT KNOW THINE ENEMIES
Knowing what keywords to use is the most important part of SEO. This means research. Lots of research. Start off by trying to find your site on various search engines. Chances are you won?t, at least not on the first page. Write down the top 10 results you do get. These sites are your competition. Try a few different combinations of search terms. Are there any sites that appear more than once? Check those out. What keywords or phrases are used over and over? What are the titles of pages? What is the content about? What is the web address? These are potential keywords Record them. These will be the basis for your own search engine optimization.
THOU SHALT NOT USE KEYWORDS WANTONLY
Keywords should be thought of as compliments; the more you give, the less meaning they have. By the same token, not giving enough won?t get you noticed. Use them wisely. Find that happy ratio of keywords to normal. A general rule of thumb in search engine optimization is 2.5-4% of your content should be keywords; no more, no less.
THOU SHALT MAKE SURE ALL CONTENT IS SENSIBLE
Don?t fall SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION into the tempting ONLINE BUSINESS trap of SEARCH ENGINES using keywords randomly SEO in order to increase your search engine rank. Tough to read, wasn?t it? Kinda made you want to scream and tear your hair out? Content above keywords. If your articles are so keyword rich that they don?t make sense, users won?t return and you?ll lose repeat revenue. All the search engine optimization in the world is useless if your users don?t stay on the site long enough to put cash in your pocket. Search engines pick up on this tricks anyway. Besides, it?s just plain dirty fighting.
THOU SHALT VARY KEYWORD USAGE
So you?ve done your research and have a list of 25 keywords you want to use in your site. Each article has a primary keyword or two. Unfortunately, every article on the site is using the same two keywords. What about the other 23? Don?t let yourself be tempted by the ease of using the same words over and over. Write articles about all 25 keywords. You spent all that time researching them, now use them! And just because one article is about one keyword doesn?t mean you can?t use other keywords in the article. Use the non-primary keywords like salt sprinkled over the entire site.
THOU SHALT UPDATE
Getting that number one search engine rank was hard. It took hours of work, and now that you?ve reached the pinnacle it?s time to sit back and reap the benefits. Right?
WRONG!
How long do you think that number one ranking will last? You know your competitors got mad when you beat them and are redesigning their sites right now. Right now, I say! Eventually they?ll pull ahead of you again, unless you manage to stay ahead in the game. Update your site constantly with new keyword rich content to make sure that you?re on the cutting edge and can keep that number one ranking.
NEVER FORGET: THOU ART NOT ALONE
Search engine optimization can seem like a daunting task at first, and maybe it is. But never forget that there are people out there willing and able to help you; it is, after all, how they make a living. Some writers specialize in SEO and there are websites available that do most of the research grunt work just waiting to hear from you. So no matter how daunting a task it may seem, don?t ever give up on search engine optimization. In an internet where everything depends on page hits, your search engine rank can never be too high.

Introduction to SEO Strategies and Techniques Posted By : Chris Diprose
An introduction to Search Engine Optimisation. Article also covers the three most important SEO techniques. A good start for anyone looking to learn SEO.
Making your website search engine friendly
Making your website search engine friendly
Search engines happen to be one of the fundamental ways that Internet users find web sites. That’s the reason a web site with good search engine listings can see a dramatic increase in traffic. Good listing remains atop on the wish list of every website owner. However, it is common knowledge that many web sites do poorly in search engine rankings. Or worst still, they may not be listed at all because they fail to take into consideration how search engines work.
Finding out ways and means to get visitors to come to your Web site can be a fairly challenging task. Here comes search engine optimization to bail you out. Search engine optimization means making it sure that your web pages are accessible to search engines and focused in such ways as will improve the chances they will be found.
When you focus on search engine optimization, you do not employ tricks or hacks, but instead write your pages so they provide exactly what your customers want whilst simultaneously showing it to the search engines effectively.
Here’s how you go about it.
Choose your target phrase
If you wish search engine optimization to work for you, you have to determine one phrase that best describes what your page is all about. This is precisely what is called target phrase. In choosing target phrase, following points should be borne in mind:
- Your phrase should be an important part of the page information.
- It should be accurate. One of the commonly tried hacks with search engine optimization is to try to optimize on a phrase that isn’t accurate for the content of the page. It is better to simply avoid it. It may backfire.
- It should be popular . Your target phrase should be one that people are likely to search you with.
You can resort to the following search engine optimization tools to better choose your target phrase.
- Overture is an effective tool for assessing popularity as well as brainstorming ideas for target phrases.
- Google is highly useful for brainstorming target phrases.
- Word Tracker will be of your help in assessing popularity and also comparing how the competitors use the target phrase you’re after.
Evaluate your competition
One of the vital things to focus on while developing your web-site presence is to evaluate your competition and rival competitors. Attempt an analysis what’s working for them; how they market their products and services, and even evaluate their target phrase and description tags.
One thing here may be taken note of that the more popular a target phrase is, the more competition there is likely to be. Sometimes, therefore, it makes sense to target a less popular phrase where you can corner the market rather than aiming for the highest popularity phrase.
The following do’s on your part will help you in this backdrop.
- Check out Yahoo and Google to see what shows up when you search for your target phrase.
- Examine the pages on the first page; analyze where and how they use your target phrase. You can use the "Cached" page option in Google to get your targeted phrase highlighted.
Make your website content driven
Search engines, especially search giant, Google loves content, content, and content. The more rich content you provide using your keywords or target phrase the better you page rankings will be. The best method employed here is to update your pages 2 to 3 times a week, for an instance Monday, Wednesday and again Sunday. While updating the content regularly, you may work well on focusing on your keyword or target phrase.
Here are some significant points to be taken care of:
- Include your target phrase twice in the meta title tag <title> Ensure your title is "clickable". This is what most of the people see when they search, so keep your title logical and descriptive enough.
- Include your target phrase in the title or headline for your page. Put that headline using a header tag for your headlines, as search engines quite often weight words in these tags higher.
- Do not forget to include your target phrase in subheads, using header tags here too.
- Finally, make sure that you include your target phrase in the first paragraph of your page, and twice if you can. Also include it in other locations on the page, like external links, headlines, and sidebars.
Go for your site promotion
Make sure that when you announce your page, you use your target phrase in both the link text and any explanatory text. If you run a blog, you will want to blog your page with at least two references to your target phrase.
List your site in Link Directories that provide a specific category for your services, these are also effective ways to create inbound links as the more inbound links you have generated to your web-site the higher the page rank you are likely to get in Google.
The key consideration to getting your site noticed is to optimize the keywords and use them all over your site. Look for quality link partners that have the same services or products you offer. This is because if you link to a Tupper ware site and you offer fine wine, it isn’t going to do you much good as there is no common denominator.
List your sites in Link Directories that provide a specific category that best suits your site content and services.
Check Your results in top of the rankings
If Google or Yahoo don’t crawl your site on a periodic basis, then submit your page to them. Wait for a week or so, and then go to those engines and test your search engine optimization target phrase. You should aim to get to the first or second page of search results for your target phrase. Remember that this can not be done in a single shot; it is long, continuous process putting your patience to the test.
Search engine optimization strategies at a glance
Here is a recapitulation of warranted strategies aimed at facilitating your website topping the search engine rankings. But, be sure you do not give up or falter midway as it is an arduous to achieve yet potentially profitable proposition.
- Ensure that your website is tested for good load time, dead links and cross-browser compatibility . Netmechanic.com is a good website to do this.
- Optimize you web site pages . Make sure your top keywords appear in your title, meta tags and content.
- Provide quality content that have something unique to offer and that have keywords or key phrases people might search to find your site. If you are into selling products, give something away free (The word "free" is one of the top most searched for words on the net).
- Continually build quality links to your site pages from other well ranked sites on your target search engine.
- Enlist your top keywords and key-phrases and track your listings/ranking in the top 10 search engines and analyze it in a periodic manner
- Focus on your web site attractiveness and easy-to-use feature with clear navigation and easy to read layout and fonts.
- tay focused to cater to your visitors needs - don’t throw in a free-for-all links program to just attract traffic. In the long run your website will be recognized for what it is.
It’s worth sparing the time to make your site more search engine friendly, because some simple changes may pay off with big results. Even if you don’t figure in the top ten for your target keywords, you may find a beneficial clue for target keywords you aren’t anticipating.

THE POWER OF BEING THE BRAND (PART1) - by Michelle van der Heyde
THE POWER OF BEING THE BRAND (PART1)
- by Michelle van der Heyde
Imagine a person, who has no company, no website, no physical brand other than their name. Now imagine this person to be a billionaire. Have you ever considered this idea? It is not really impossible, but it s highly improbable, and for most people, that s close enough.
The power that branding has in the marketplace is almost immeasurable (regardless of whether the brand in question is a company or a living, breathing human being). Before we begin our detailed analysis of branding its enormous power, let s first get clear on the terms brand and branding . No, this is not the cattle torture thing.
What is a brand ? [Partial Info by (allaboutbranding. com) & (wikipedia.com)]
Definition: A brand includes a name, logo, slogan, and/or design scheme associated with a product or service. Brand recognition and other reactions are created by the use of the product or service and through the influence of advertising, design, and media commentary. A brand is a symbolic embodiment of all the information connected to the product and serves to create associations and expectations around it. A brand often includes a logo, fonts, color schemes, symbols, and sound, which may be developed to represent implicit values, ideas, and even personality.
The definition (above) seems adequate, but your Brand is not merely your company name, logo, website, or advertisements. A brand is also what your customers, suppliers, investors, employees, business members and the public think, say, believe and champion about your company. It is not only what they are willing to pay for your brand and all products associated with it, but also the emotional value & connection they associate with your brand. It is your corporate reputation . Because it is reputation, there are things that you can and cannot control.
Some of the most successful people on the planet have decided to BE the brand, people like Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart and Donald Trump. Doing this has given them enormous advantages in the marketplace (which I ll discuss with you later). It is probably not news that your brand is one of the most valuable assets of your company, if not the most valuable. Brands that are correctly built and promoted have immense financial value and power, and can command higher prices than their competitors, while keeping their customers loyal.
What is branding ? [Partial Info by (allaboutbranding. com)]
Branding , implies all the direct and indirect activities undertaken by a company to imprint and influence a desired reputation upon its customers. These specific activities will determine the perceptions of a company s targeted and non-targeted audience. A company s LEADERSHIP (meaning management and the board ), is responsible for the management of these activities, to direct the development &/ or growth of the brand and its value. Branding will occur, regardless of whether it was done or not, this can be either good or bad, depending on the brand s integrity. In cases where branding is purposefully done, it would be called direct branding activity . In cases where it happens unintentionally, it would be called indirect branding activity (view the characteristics of each individually, below).
A direct branding activity is one that a company intentionally designs and controls. The message and how it is to be delivered, is planned to convey the company s philosophy & message clearly and concisely. Examples of direct branding includes developing BRANDING ARTIFACTS such as company name, logo, business philosophy, ad campaigns, website, publicity, events, sponsorships and charity involvement.
An indirect branding activity is one where a company has little to no control over its message and how it will be delivered, received or shared (nor by whom). It is how an audience experiences a company. Indirect branding activities range from the company s daily business to handling crisis issues, and how these OPERATIONS are perceived and received by customers, staff and the marketplace. How it communicates, compensates, relates to employees and customer service and supplier relations all affect the perception.
Everything a company does forms and alters a company s brand. It is therefore critical to have a consistent, clear and concise MESSAGE. This is the most efficient way for a brand to remain consistent over time (increasing the brand s market life), expressed by all staff and implemented in all operations.
Great examples of the branding phenomenon are Coca-Cola (which is most likely the first soda / soft drink that comes to mind), KFC (think of fried chicken), Disney, Google, Nike, Nokia, Audi, etc. If I were to name every known brand it could take forever, preventing me from making my point. My point is that these are companies with management that really understood the art of branding, therefore these brands are not only extremely well known, but their founders (and their founders families), are wealthier than even they can imagine (and getting more so by the second).
You have a brand, cause you are a brand! [Partial Info by (allaboutbranding. com)]
Your name is one of the many things that make you unique, and if used properly, it could also be one of the many things that could make you really rich. Before I tell you how to put your name to use, let s talk about the other three things, which are your brain, your PC and a decent Internet connection. If you are already going: OH NO! I have Dial-up instead of Broadband! , then perhaps you should have some tranquilizers now, before it gets really complicated. After all, I don t want anyone to have a panic attack. By the way, having Dial-up vs. Broadband, is really not a big deal.
The BIG DEAL is the Internet. You should know this or you probably wouldn t be reading this right now, but unfortunately it s more than that. The technologically disadvantaged are being left behind, while the rest (bloggers, internet article writers, e-book writers, software developers, web hosts, web designers, affiliate marketers and scam sites ) are getting rich. These people are not only taking their share of all profits to be had, but are also the big players when it comes to branding on the Internet. They are branding themselves and everybody else (sometimes in good way, but sometimes not), with every publication they make.
Not so long ago, the power of word of mouth , depended very much on the innuendo and snide remarks of gossip columnists & critics, some filled with prejudice and ignorance. Their abilities to make or break careers in an instant were legendary, however since then the rules have changed significantly. Those being held to account are just as likely to be in commerce, and the ones searching for the truth could be bloggers, reviewers, journalists, colleagues and/ or customers. Their targets are no longer just the rich, the famous and the scandalous, but could just as easily be you or I. Does this scare you?
Today more and more consumers are willing to lend the weight of their word, their reputation and their opinions to products and services in the marketplace. If you are a consistent company, with happy customers and well-treated staff members, this could well make you an instant star. However, if you are messing up or playing around, then expect the opinion police (many scam sites ) to catch up with you - and to circulate their views to a potentially large audience in an extremely short time frame.
Proof of the gathering power of word of mouth idea, can be seen in the growth of opinion portals . Some have been around for ages and feature review of products and services in a bewildering range of areas. Scam sites are usually a good mix of bloggers vs. affiliate marketers .
1) They invite strangers to voice their opinions (about any product or service, which they feel was a scam ), and then publish it. They do this, to generate traffic to their websites and to raise their search-engine ranking (through branding).
2) Usually they would also have one product on the site that they sell and guarantee to be scam-free . They do this to make money, because there is no point in generating that much traffic without making any money out of it.
Knowing which sites to watch and doing so regularly (so you know what not to do), will make a lot of difference to your brand (because you don t want to end up there). Many people don t know, that once something has been on the Internet, it is nearly impossible if not impossible to undo it. Even once it has been removed from whatever sites it appeared, it would always appear in the
Search engine, in some way or another.
My first advice is: DON T DO SPAM! Spam is illegal in many countries, and even in the ones that do allow it, people will complain before you know it. Spam leads you to scam sites . Doing damage to brand that has barely come into existence, is not really smart, nor will it benefit you in the future to have your name on a scam site . My second advice would be that if you do believe in e-mail marketing, as I do, allow people to volunteer for a Newsletter or Free Subscription, or something.
Anyone who is willing and able to work in a legal and fair way, could build a strong brand quickly and at minimum cost. The low-cost, simplified ways of branding that are available on the Internet make it equally difficult or easy for the rich guy (with the big company) as for the not-so-rich guy (who is sitting in front of his PC right now, wondering how he can make a buck) to achieve success. This level playing field, also increases the chances of anyone who is willing to become a brand, and do so responsibly, of becoming the next millionaire.

Basic Search Engine Optimization and 5 Critical Links
Basic Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization or “SEO” is the process of optimizing a website for high search engine rankings for a particular search term or set of search terms. OK, now that we have the dictionary definition, what does that really mean?
When you go to Google and do a search you expect to find something relevant to the “search term” you entered, right? If you look for apples you want to find something about either those red shiny fruits or perhaps a computer. So how does Google know where to look? Its spiders (computer programs that scour the internet) look for pages that are relevant to the term you entered. Actually, this has been done beforehand so google can get your results likity-split. These pages are “indexed”. Your mission as an astute webmaster is to construct you pages so the search engines index you pages quickly and accurately. This way, the search engine is happy because they deliver a relevant page to its “customer”, the searcher. the searcher is happy because they found what they were looking for. As a webmaster, you are happy because the search engine delivered a targeted searcher to your site. Win, win, win.
It boils down to one word. Relevance. You see, search engine optimization is no longer about “tricking” search engines into thinking that your site is relevant. If you are familiar with the changes at the various search engines you may have heard about the horror stories of sites that were ranked high one day and then not at all the next. These sites usually relied on underhanded methods to get indexed. If your site is truly relevant and delivers what is “expected” you will most likely climb in the rankings.
Search Engine Optimization is more than just creating a few meta tags and submitting your URL to a few search engines. in fact, SEO goes even beyond the definition we started with above. There are a number of strategies that currently work to provide a better chance at getting listed higher in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). Besides having the page optimized with relevant words and terms, outside factors can actually play a large part. Sometimes these factors are the MOST important.
Among the other factors that play a vital part in your sites rankings are: incoming links and the rank of the sites that provide the links, listings by relevant directories, and of course the quality of the content of your own site.Let’s face it: Search Engine Optimization is vital to a successful site. While it may not be simple, it doesn’t have to be overly complicated either. There are plenty of resources on the internet that will help you optimize your site for optimization.
We have listed a few of those here.
